Road trip through the South | January Recap

I went on a road trip, and I’m gonna tell you all about it!

Hallo meine Freunde! Gefühlt habe ich euch gerade erst Ideen für Silvester-Outfits gepostet und jetzt ist schon wieder Februar. Da dachte ich mir, ich stelle eine kleine Recap zusammen um euch mal wieder auf den neuesten Stand zu bringen. Die erste Monatshälfte vom Januar habe ich tatsächlich größtenteils auf der Straße bzw. im Auto verbracht. Mein Freund und ich haben nämlich einen Roadtrip durch die Südstaaten der USA gemacht. Dadurch bin ich meinem Ziel, mindestens einmal in all 50 Staaten zu reisen, wieder ein bisschen näher gekommen.

EN | Hello friends! It feels like yesterday that I posted outfit ideas for NYE for you and now its’s already February- so I thought I’d put together a little recap for you, to give you a life update. I spent the first half of January mainly on the road/in the car. My boyfriend and I did a road trip through the Southern states of the U.S. Thanks to this trip, I’ve come a little closer to my goal of traveling to all 50 states at least once. 

First stop: Nashville, Tennessee

DE | Der Cousin meines Freundes und ein paar andere Familienmitglieder und Freunde leben hier, also war es praktisch, unseren Trip hier zu beginnen. Wir haben ein paar Tage mit Familie und Freunden verbracht und dann ein Auto gemietet und sind auf unsere Reise aufgebrochen. Wir waren vorher schonmal in Nashville, für etwa 24 Stunden, und fanden es mega. Deshalb haben wir uns total gefreut, nochmal hinzufliegen. Die Stadt ist super cool!

EN | My boyfriend’s cousin and other family/friends live here, so it was convenient to start our road trip here. We stayed for a few days and spent time with family and friends, then rented a car and embarked on our journey. We’ve been to Nashville before, just for about 24 hours, and it was awesome, so we were excited to go back. It’s a super fun city!

Stop 2: Atlanta, Georgia

DE | Von Nashville aus sind wir etwa 4 Stunden nach Atlanta gefahren. Die Stadt ist super sauber und schön und das Coca Cola Museum ist MEGA! Solltet ihr jemals in Atlanta sein, geht dort definitiv hin!

EN | From Nashville, we drove about 4 hours to Atlanta. The city is super clean, pretty and the Coca Cola museum we visited was EPIC! If you ever find yourself in ATL, definitely check it out!

Quick pitstop: Covington, Georgia

DE | Von Atlanta aus sind wir ins etwa 40 Minuten entfernte Covington gefahren. In der Kleinstadt wurde The Vampire Diaries gedreht, eine meiner absoluten Lieblingsserien früher. Es war super cool, alle Props und die ganzen Häuser aus der Serie zu sehen.

EN | From Atlanta, we drove 40 minutes to Covington, the small town where The Vampire Diaries was filmed, which was one of my favorite shows as a teenager. It was super cool to see all the props and the houses from the show.

Stop 3: Birmingham, Alabama

DE | Ich weiß nicht, was ich sagen soll… wir waren enttäuscht. Wir sind an einem Montagabend angekommen und es gab nichts zu tun. Alle Bars und Restaurants waren zu und als wir etwa 30 Minuten durch Downtown gelaufen sind haben wir vielleicht 3 Menschen und höchstens 5 Autos (wenn überhaupt) gesehen. Vielleicht waren wir einfach zur falschen Zeit da oder am falschen Ort, aber es gab nicht viel zu tun. Also sind wir nach Tuscaloosa gefahren, wo die University of Alabama ist. Wir haben uns ein Hotel genommen und am nächsten Tag sind wir herumgefahren um den RIESIGEN Campus zu begutachten. Das war ziemlich cool, aber ansonsten gab es nicht viel zu sehen.

EN | I don’t really know what to tell you… we were disappointed. We arrived on a Monday evening, and there was nothing to do. All the bars and restaurants were closed and when we walked around Downtown for 30 minutes, we saw maybe 3 people and a maximum of 5 cars (if even). Maybe we came at a bad time, or we just went to the wrong place, but there wasn’t much to do here, so we drove to Tuscaloosa where the University of Alabama is located. We got a hotel there and on the next day, we drove around to check out the MASSIVE university campus. That was pretty cool. Besides that, there wasn’t much to see.

Stop 4: Jackson, Mississippi

DE | Als nächstes hat unser Trip uns nach Jackson verschlagen. Auch hier gab es nicht viel zu tun. Wir sind durch Downtown und durch den Arts District gefahren, von dem es im Internet hieß er sei ziemlich cool. Aber als wir dort angekommen sind war nichts los und wir haben uns etwas unwohl gefühlt, also sind wir weitergefahren. Außerdem hat sich mein Freund eine kleine Erkältung eingefangen und ihm ging es nicht so gut. Deswegen sind wir einfach ins Hotel gefahren und haben uns ausgeruht.

EN | Next, our road trip took us to Jackson. Again, not that much to do. We drove through Downtown and the Arts District, which the internet told us was pretty cool. When we got there, there was nothing going on and we felt kinda unsafe, so we moved on. Besides, my boyfriend got a little cold, so he wasn’t feeling too hot, so we just hung out at the hotel.

Stop 5: Shreveport, Louisianna

DE | Die Stadt war zwar wieder ziemlich langweilig, aber das Essen was super gut und das Hotel in dem wir geschlafen haben war mega. In Louisianna ist Glücksspiel erlaubt und unser Hotel war ein Casino Hotel, was ziemlich cool war. Abgesehen davon gab es hier aber nicht viel zu tun oder zu sehen.

EN | While the city was pretty boring, the food was really good, and the hotel we stayed at was awesome. Louisianna is a gambling state, and we stayed at a casino hotel, so that was pretty fun. Besides that, not much to do or see here.

Stop 6: Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas

DE | Wir hatten super viel Spaß hier. Texas war definitiv mein zweitliebster Stop auf diesem Trip – nach Atlanta. Auch wenn Dallas nicht der schönste Ort und sehr dreckig war hat es uns hier sehr gut gefallen weil Fort Worth cool war. Wir haben bei einem Freund meines Freundes geschlafen und er hat uns die Stadt gezeigt. In Fort Worth hatte ich eine mega Zeit und das Essen war der HAMMER. Leider wurde ich aber etwas krank, da mein Freund mich angesteckt hat…

EN | We had a blast here. Definitely my second favorite stop on this road trip – after Atlanta. Even though Dallas was not the prettiest place and very dirty, we really liked this leg of our trip because Fort Worth was cool. We stayed with one of my boyfriend’s friends and he showed us around. I loved going out in Fort Worth, and the food (BBQ) was TO DIE FOR. We had a great time here, even though I got a little sick because my boyfriend passed his cold on to me…

Stop 7: Little Rock, Arkansas

DE | Aus irgendeinem Grund hatte ich mich mega auf Little Rock gefreut. Das Ding ist dass wir an einem Sonntag angekommen sind und weil Arkansas ein sehr religiöser Staat ist, konnten wir weder weggehen, noch feiern oder überhaupt Alkohol kaufen. Wir waren außerdem noch ein bisschen krank, also sind wir im Hotel geblieben, haben Taco Bell gegessen und Fernseh geschaut.

EN | For some reason I was really excited for Little Rock. The thing was that we arrived on a Sunday and since Arkansas is a very religious state, we couldn’t really go out, party, or even buy alcohol. We were still a little sick, so we just stayed in, ate Taco Bell in bed and watched TV. 

Quick pitstop no. 2: Memphis, Tennessee

DE | Auf dem Rückweg haben wir kurz in Memphis angehalten, um die Bass Pro Shops Pyramide zu sehen. Darin befindet sich eine riesige Bass Pro Shops Filiale (eine bekannte Kette in den USA wo man Ausstattung fürs Jagen, Campen, Fischen, etc. einkaufen kann) sowie ein Hotel und Restaurants. Mein Freund wollte sie unbedingt sehen und ich muss sagen, dass es echt cool war.

EN | On the way back we stopped in Memphis to see the Bass Pro Shops pyramid. Inside, there’s a massive Bass Pro Shops store (a famous chain where you can buy hunting, fishing, camping gear, etc.), as well as a hotel and restaurants. My boyfriend really wanted to see it and I gotta say, it was pretty cool.

And then: back to Nashville

DE | Wir haben unseren Roadtrip in Nashville beendet, weil wir den Mietwagen dort zurückgeben mussten. Wir haben ein paar Tage beim Cousin meines Freundes übernachtet, einfach nur relaxed und das leckere Essen genossen.

EN | We ended our road trip in Nashville because we had to return the rental car. We stayed with my boyfriend’s cousin for a few days and just relaxed and enjoyed the delicious food.

DE | Das war die Kurzfassung unseres zweiwöchigen Roadtrips. Wir hatten super viel Spaß, obwohl viele Städte zwischen Atlanta und Dallas nicht wirklich aufregend waren. Ich habe es einfach genossen, im Urlaub zu sein, keinen genauen Plan zu haben und Zeit miteinander zu verbringen. Außerdem habe ich jetzt “nur” noch 34 Staaten vor mir!

EN | That was the short version of our two-week road trip. It was super fun, despite the many cities in between Atlanta and Dallas that weren’t very exciting. I loved just being on vacation, not having a plan and spending time together. Plus, now I “only” have 34 more states to go!
